November Healthy Harvest Habits
As the fruiting season comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to thank our friends at Communauto Toronto for helping us keep things moving throughout the urban orchard, and contributing to reducing food waste!
As Communauto brings over 25+ years of urban carsharing expertise to Toronto, they have become a fundamental aspect of the city of Toronto’s options for sustainable transportation, alongside reducing personal vehicle ownership and demand for parking. Carsharing has an important influence on reducing energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and other polluting emissions.
While we continue to fundraise to replenish our recalled cargo bike fleet to help us reduce fruit food waste, it’s a no brainer for us to join in Communauto carsharing, as it reduces the number of vehicles on the road, reducing car usage overall. Carsharing makes maintaining our city-wide equipment depots, delivering fruit after fruit picks to community agencies, and helping us bring needed items to our events and celebrations a breeze!
Communauto Toronto has offered us a generous discount on a membership, and has invited us to share the savings with our community. When signing up for a new Open Plus or any Value Plan, use promotional code NFFTT, and receive a $60 usage credit!
It’s great for last minute errands, such as moving equipment from one location to another, or bringing 250lbs apples to a food bank after a tree turns out to be more prolific than originally thought (shoutout to TD Friends of the Environment for our most used bags!). For Fruit Pickers, one-way FLEX is perfect for those last minute fruit picks you join through our Fruit Picking Portal!

You can pick up the car at the station you selected and return it to the station where you picked it up at the agreed time, and even book it up to a month in advance.
We love using these vehicles for our planned events, such as tabling at community farmer’s markets, or Pick Leader and Steering Committee appreciation fruit picking field trips!
