Thanks for registering a tree with us! We’re excited to get picking!
Here’s some answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I need to be home?
You don’t need to be home for us to pick, unless it’s necessary for us to gain access – or you want to see us in action! We’ll take care of your property, and ensure we leave everything just as we found it.
Does NFFTT have insurance for its pickers?
Yes, as a project of Tides Canada Initiatives Society, our volunteers are covered by insurance while they are on your property.
How long is a pick?
Picks are 2 hours long. A team of 5 volunteers will pick as much as they can in 2 hours. If there is still more fruit after the pick, we will do our best to return, but can’t make any promises – we try to get to every tree at least once before returning to the same one!
Do I need to provide a green bin?
Yes, please! We will clean up any fruit on the ground and put it into a yard waste bag or green bin – if you can provide these, that will be extremely helpful to our volunteers!
Do I need to provide a ladder?
Yes, please! Our volunteers arrive via cargo bike, and unfortunately can’t transport a ladder. If a tree requires a ladder to pick, please do your best to provide one. This might mean borrowing one from a neighbour! If the tree is too tall to reach without a ladder, it will be difficult for our volunteers to pick much fruit. When the season gets busy, we will prioritize properties that are able to provide ladders.
I requested a pick, but NFFTT can’t find volunteers!
We have over 1,800 trees registered with our program and do our best to meet every pick request. All picks are run by our amazingly dedicated volunteers. While we try to find a group for your tree, sometimes we just can’t meet every request! To help us grow our capacity, please consider becoming a Supreme Gleaner, or making a donation to expand our picking fleet!
There’s still fruit left on my tree after the pick, what gives?
We pick as much as we can in two hours! Please keep in mind our volunteers aren’t professional arborists. Sometimes we can’t quite get every single fruit – especially the ones that are super high on the tree!
My fruit disappeared all of a sudden! Did a rogue group of pickers come in the middle of the night?
This is a surprisingly common question – but it isn’t us! If you have an especially delicious crop, critters will sometimes beat us to the punch!
Help! My fruit is ready right now, I can’t give a weeks notice!
Give us a call! We will do our best to schedule a pick for you ASAP!
