Celebrating cycling in the city

New Cargo Bike

Two weeks ago, we welcomed a new addition to our cargo bike family: a shiny blue and orange number that was generously donated by ING Direct along with a financial donation to support our 2013 harvest season!

Not Far From the Tree

We received both donations at a cycling-themed celebration at ING Direct’s Downtown Toronto Cafe. The event was part of ING’s Free Coffee Fridays series (which lived up to its name) and brought together bike enthusiasts and inspiring community organizations from across the city.

Some amazing folks and organizations were in attendance including…

Food Share Cycle TO

FoodShare - FoodShare staff whipped up fresh smoothies with their bike-powered blender. The smoothies featured school-grown greens from a farm that FoodShare helped to develop at Bendale Technical Institute in Scarborough.

Great Bike Recycle

Bikes Without Borders and Youth Assisting Youth - Through a sponsorship of Bikes Without Borders, a bike mechanic was brought in to fix up bikes in the basement of ING’s Cafe. The fixed-up, good-as-new bikes were donated to kids through the Youth Assisting Youth program.

Cycle Toronto - Staff and volunteers from Cycle Toronto welcomed guests into the Café and shared resources and tips on cycling in the city.

All in all it was a lovely way to spend a Friday morning. A big thank you goes out to the team at ING Direct for their generousity and hospitality.

Keep an eye out for our new cargo bike this summer!
