With picking season nearly here,we’ve recruited two summer students to help with smooth sailing as the cherry/berry madness begins! Our new Logistics and Equipment Assistant is Chiara Ferroro-Wong (on the right), and our Community Animator is Sophie Ciglen (on the left). Chiara will helping with any equipment issues across our storage locations and leading some of our fruit picks, while Sophie will be assisting Lauren with our various community events over the season.
We asked them a few questions to get to know them better. Check out their answers below!
What part of the city do you call home?
Sophie: Bloor West Village – born and raised!
Sophie: I just graduated from Brock University with an Honours BA in Media and Communication Studies.
Chiara: I’m doing a double major in environmental science and English at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
What are your plans, after graduation?
Sophie: I’m hoping to pursue graduate studies in Public Relations at Humber College, and eventually move on to doing a Masters of Gender and Media at the University of Sussex in Britain.
Chiara: Right now I’m thinking about doing a masters in science journalism, but I’m not set on one path in particular. I would also be interested in sustainability and conservation work, or working with communities on greener living, or something similar.
What keeps you busy when you’re not in class?
Sophie: I love to spend my time with friends – shopping, trying out new cute cafes and restaurants, listening to music (on my phone/computer or live, either works), and dancing up a storm!
Sophie: Literally all of it, I love every type of fruit!
Chiara: Grapes, as they are my favourite fruit!
Thanks for sharing ladies!
