Fruitful is back! Not Far From the Tree’s artisan preserve collection is returning for 2016, and we’re proud to feature our producing partners here on the blog.
Christine Manning has been making award-winning jams, jellies, pickles and marmalades at Manning Canning since 2012. Her products are available at shops and farmers’ markets all over Toronto and beyond, and she regularly conducts preserving workshops for the public. Most recently, she opened a commercial rental kitchen so other small food businesses have a professional space to grow.
Manning Canning works with local produce, creating new recipes and updating old ones to bring an historic practice into the modern kitchen. Christine’s Twitter feed is full of pictures from the kitchen, the food terminal, and the markets, as well as recipes, events, and the delicious things being made by the folks who rent the kitchen. After getting her start in the East Scarborough Storefront, Christine’s commitment to community and helping other small businesses get off the ground is an integral part of her business, and one of the reasons Not Far From the Tree wanted to have her on board.
“I am thrilled that Not Far From the Tree approached to me to be part of this wonderful initiative,” says Christine. “I have partnered with them in the past to offer a family style preserving day, and I love the idea of being a part of the effort to help reduce the amount of fruit that is grown on city trees that simply goes to waste.”
We’re so thankful to have Christine back on board, and we’re looking forward to what she has to offer!
Manning Canning will be making an Apple Onion Ale Relish for Fruitful, using apples from Spadina Museum. Learn more about Manning Canning at www.manningcanning.com.
